An artist friend is about to have his first solo exhibit on November 5, Saturday. I am a fan of his work.
The thing is, this guy has Stevens-Johnson Syndrome. He took an antibiotic one day, took a nap, then woke up with his gums dangling out like an octopus, and his eyeballs completely black.
What SJS does is it burns your from the inside-out. It’s a rare reaction to antibiotics. Normally, people die from this, but he survived. From your internal organs to your skin tissue—everything was 4th degree burns. You can see the flesh and muscles.
He was able to rebuild his body and was able to live a normal life for 3 years. He went back to painting, his first love, even if his eyesight was permanently damaged.
But one day, his eyes stopped producing tears and he is now fighting to save what is left of his eyesight. The artist is relatively healthy and cheerful now, with new symptoms popping out here and there.
(Syndrome means doctors can’t explain the symptoms and where the condition is going. It’s all up in the air.)
The work will speak for itself. See you at the exhibit!

Please stop using the phrase “krisis sa Mindanao” o “kaguluhan sa Mindanao” on your news reports. Mindanao is a very big island. While a tragedy indeed happened in Basilan, it is only a part of a big land area. It is a disservice to all who live in Mindanao in peace. People who are not from Mindanao tend to think that there’s chaos all over here in the island, when in fact there is none.
If a bombing happens in Makati or in Manila for instance, you would not call it a “Luzon crisis or problem”, would you? You have to be more sensitive and professional because media has the ability to affect the consciousness of the viewers.
You can help the country achieve what it desires. Choose your words well in your news report.
I’ve shown you the photos. So now let’s get crackin’. Click on the CHILD FOUNDATION link and make a donation. This foundation needs to raise 1.6 million pesos to purchase incubators and pediatric beds for the historic Philippine General Hospital. Please help them make it happen.
